When to use JPG vs PNG

JPG is usually better for photos, slides, and email-friendly previews. PNG is better when you want sharper text edges or a lossless export. Both options are available in the same tool.

JPG is a practical choice for a photo-heavy page, a presentation preview, or an image you need to place in a content-management system. Its quality setting lets you balance download size against visible detail. PNG is generally the safer choice for line art, screenshots, diagrams, and small text because it is lossless. A PNG may be much larger, however, so it is not always the right export for an email attachment.

Choose the right resolution

PDF to Images offers 1×, 2×, and 3× page rendering. Start at 2× for a useful balance of clarity and file size. Use 1× for a quick small preview; use 3× when the image will be enlarged or contains fine visual detail. Higher resolutions produce more pixels, which means larger downloads and more work for your device. For long PDFs, export only when you really need image files for every page.

What happens to PDF text?

A JPG is an image, not a PDF text layer. Text that was selectable in the source becomes pixels in the exported JPG. If you need to copy words from a born-digital PDF, use Extract Text instead. If the source is a scanned, image-only PDF and you need recognized text, use OCR PDF.

Private conversion for sensitive pages

PDF to Images renders the pages in your browser. The source PDF does not go to an All PDF Needs processing server. That is useful when you are creating a page preview from a contract, invoice, form, or ID scan. Review the exported image before you share it: converting a page to JPG does not remove sensitive information that is visible on the page.
